e had a great class with Michelle today. The regional color specialist for PM came to our salon and taught us her favorite techniques for achieving both subtle and bold ombre color. We also learned about how to achieve those candy dipped ends that are becoming more and more popular, as well as some product knowledge and the balayage technique.
Balayage is a great technique for subtle highlights for those who like a more natural sun kissed look. It provides more longevity because it is less solid and grows out more gracefully. Jennifer Anniston and Giselle Bundchden are great examples of beautiful balayage results.
Ombre hair color has been around for a while now and is still very popular. Although the bolder color contrast seems to be over, the more subtle look is definitely still VERY IN. I believe it will not be one that disappears very quickly.
Candy dipped ends are a fun look and far more socially acceptable than styles of the sort have been in the past. Some have referred to them as “mermaid-y”, I like to call them candy dipped because the colors are so playful and candy-esque. The tips are less of an edgy look and more mainstream these days. The only flaw with the look is the fun colors don’t last as long as normal hair color. A good 2 weeks of fun and it will soon be back to normal.
